Jean-Dominique Fleury
Creator of contemporary artistic stained-glass windows
Since 1978 from his studio in Toulouse, J-D Fleury has become a world renowned expert in the sphere of ancient and contemporary stained-glass.
Following numerous commissions in the ‘80s to restore the stained-glass in cathedrals including Narbonne, Toulouse, Bordeaux and Rodez, Jean-Dominique then partnered with famous artists in the ‘90s to explore new artistic stained-glass techniques. For example, he created 80m2 of stained-glass with Miquel Barcelo for Palma de Mallorca cathedral; 104 bays in the Conques basilica with Pierre Soulages and 50m2 for Notre-Dame de l’Arche d’Alliance in Paris with Martial Raysse, to name but a few.
His wealth of experience in working with glass and stained-glass enables him to transcribe his fellow artists’ thoughts by borrowing techniques traditionally used in Applied Arts. Therefore, with each individual partnership, for religious or public buildings, Jean-Dominique undertakes an extensive in-depth personal research allowing for the development of unexpected tools and new methods.
Jean-Dominique Fleury was awarded the title of “Maître d’Art” (Master of the Arts) by the French Culture Minister in December 2009.
His contribution to international conferences has helped in spreading his ideas, experiments and experiences.
